Jack Clayburn Martin, of Toronto, died at the Greenwood County Hospital on Monday, October 27, 2003, at the age of 90.
He was born on May 29, 1913, in Gentry, Arkansas, the son of Claude W. and Della Mae (Feaster) Martin. He was raised in the Gentry area and attended Gentry schools. After his schooling Jack moved to Wichita, Kansas and married the love of his life, Mary “Marie” Edna Elder on August 8, 1935. They enjoyed a long marriage of 69 years and were blessed with two children, Linda and Larry.
Jack worked most of his adult life in the auto parts business and in his later years before retirement owned his own on-the-road auto parts store. He and Marie retired in 1976.
Jack and Marie spent many of their retirement years traveling in their RV, wintering in Texas and Arizona. They retired permanently to Toronto in 1985, and have spent many happy years there. He was a friend to many and his humor and gold toothed smile will be missed by all. He was an excellent provider for his family and was always willing to offer help to those in need.
He is survived by his wife, Marie of the home, daughter, Linda Loder and her husband Alen of Wichita, son, Larry Martin and his wife Ginger of Camdenton, Missouri, four granddaughters, three grandsons, and one step granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his parents and one step grandson.
Graveside services and interment will be held at 2:00 P.M., Thursday, October 30, 2003, in Toronto Cemetery with Pastor Merlin Enabrit of the Toronto Christian Church officiating.
A memorial has been established in his name to the American Cancer Society. Contributions may be sent in care of the Koup Family Funeral Home, P.O. Box 595, Eureka, Kansas, which was in charge of service arrangements.
