Jack Ocy Connell of Eureka died June 6, 2011, at the Eureka Nursing Center at the age of 94.
He was born on April 20, 1917, in Fall River, the son of Johnney T. and Elizabeth (Proehl) Connell. Jack was raised in Fall River and attended local schools. After graduating from high school, Jack attended Pittsburg State University before enlisting in the Army Air Corp during WWII. He served his country with honor and dignity.
After his discharge, on March 8, 1946, he was united in marriage to Virginia Larcom in Wichita. After their marriage, Jack and Virginia lived in Wichita and then Fall River before settling in Eureka in 1949. Jack worked in the oilfield as a roughneck and driller and as an oilfield supply sales person. In 1961, Jack was transferred to Hennessey, Oklahoma before moving back to Eureka in 1964. At that time, Jack was an oilfield pumper and farmed.
Jack was a member of the United Methodist Church, the Fall River Masonic Lodge, and the Midian Shrine.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia Connell of Eureka; daughter, Andrea Effertz of Lafayette, Colorado; son Johnney C. Connell and wife, Bev of Lenexa; grandchildren, Craig Foster and wife, Adrienne of Fairfax, California; Jeffrey Connell and wife, Elizabeth of Lenexa; Justin Eli Effertz of Lafayette, Colorado; Erin Kolich and husband, Jason of Coraopolis, Pennsylvania; Ambrea Effertz of Denver, Colorado; Kyle Effertz of Lafayette, Colorado; and one great-grandchild, Jackson Connell of Lenexa.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, June 11, 2011 at Koup Family Funeral Home, in Eureka with Pastor Maureen Howard of Christ Lutheran Church officiating. Interment will follow at Reece Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be made to the Midian Shrine Plane of Mercy. Contributions may be sent in care of Koup Family Funeral Home at P.O. Box 595, Eureka, KS 67045, which was in charge of service arrangements.
