Irma Fay (Sloan) Gray, of Wichita, formerly of Eureka returned home early Friday morning November 30, 2007, at the age of 90.

She was born on September 7, 1917, in Hamilton, to Thomas and Emma (McNichol) Sloan. She was the third of seven children and the only surviving girl in a family of boys. She was raised with her brothers on a farmstead south of Hamilton, where she lived until graduating from Hamilton High School in with the class of 1935.

On October 24, 1946, she married Wesley "Bus" Gray, an oil field worker, and started her family. In the years 1948 and 1949, Irma gave birth to two children, Dema L. and Don W. The two were born eleven months apart but, a stay at home mom was one thing she wasn't. From 1946, through 1959, she was the bookkeeper for both the Chevrolet dealership and the Hubble Mart in Eureka. In 1959, she began her employment with Greenwood County and worked in the Treasurers office for six years. In 1965, she ran for and was elected to Register of Deeds for Greenwood County, a position she held for 27 years, until her retirement in 1992.

After falling and suffering a broken hip in 2006, she resided at Lake Point Nursing & Rehab and then eventually Sandpiper Bay residence homes in Wichita. Over the course of time, and a second fall, her health began to worsen. She was admitted in November 2007 to Harry Hynes Hospice at Via Christi - St. Francis Medical Center where she resided for her final days.

She is survived by one daughter, Dema L. Osgood of Wichita; one son, Don W. Gray and wife, Jean of Wichita; three grandchildren, Brandie Bayliff and fiancé Phil; Dustin Gray; and Alissa Gray and fiancé Shawn; two great-granddaughters, Sydnie and Sadie of Wichita; four step-grandchildren; nine step-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews all around the country.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, five brothers, Earnest (Marion), Glenn (Pat), John (El-Ray), Wayne, and an infant brother, Thomas, one sister, Dema at age 4, and one son-in-law, Randy Osgood.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M., Wednesday, December 5, 2007 at Koup Family Funeral Home, Eureka with Reverend Diana Hill of the First United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery. A viewing will be held from 9:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M., Tuesday, at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be made to the Sloan Scholarship Fund. Contributions may be sent in care of Koup Family Funeral Home at P.O. Box 595, Eureka, KS 67045.
