Iola Ruth Chambers
Iola Ruth Chambers of Eureka, died on Wednesday, September 17, 2014, at her home in Eureka, at the age of 98.
She was born on December 18, 1915, in Okeene, Oklahoma, the daughter of Jacob and Lydia (Diel) Oblander. She was raised in Eureka and graduated from Eureka schools with the class of 1935. On July 19, 1937, she was united in marriage to Robert F. Chambers in Eureka. Iola and Robert worked a variety of jobs and moved to many different places including, El Dorado, Marion, Wichita, California, Nebraska, and Kansas City. Iola worked at Macy’s in Kansas City and returned to Eureka upon her retirement. Robert preceded her in death on December 17, 1970.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Eureka, and former member of the Order of the Eastern Star and Girl Scout leader.
She is survived by her daughter, Carol Fowler of Eureka; three grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Helen Bland of Des Peres, Missouri. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers, and two sisters.
Graveside services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Friday, September 19, 2014, at Greenwood Cemetery, in Eureka, with Reverend Kenneth Baker of the First United Methodist Church of Eureka officiating. Visitation hours are from 8:00 A.M. to 9:00 A.M., Friday, at the funeral home preceding the graveside.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be made to the First United Methodist Church of Eureka. Contributions may be sent in care of Koup Family Funeral Home, P.O. Box 595, Eureka, KS 67045, which was in charge of service arrangements.
