Ima Jean White, of Toronto, died on Wednesday, August 19, 2009, at St. Francis Regional Medical Center, in Wichita, at the age of 69.
She was born on April 11, 1940, in Henderson, Texas, the daughter of Grady James and Minnie Belle (Penn) Huffman. She was raised in Texas and Wichita, attending local schools. In 1955, Jean was united in marriage to Jack Ward. To this union were born three children. This marriage later ended in divorce. In 1973, Jean was united in marriage to Vernon White in Wichita where they made their home. In 1993, the family moved to the farm in Toronto until Vernon preceded her in death. Jean later moved to Arkansas City.
Jean was a member of the Toronto Baptist Church and the Toronto American Legion Auxiliary.
Jean is survived by one son, Breck Lane (Stephanie) Simmons of Wichita; one daughter, Parsha Haywood of Wichita; three grandchildren, Terry Mark Haywood, Brandon Simmons, and Bethany Simmons; six great-grandchildren; three brothers, Bill Huffman of Kansas City, Missouri; Jimmie (Dona) Huffman of Onalaska, Texas; and Bud (Nancy) Huffman of Rose Hill; and two sisters, Doris (Jim) Manning of Crestview, Florida; and Karen (Norm Conard) Owen of Fort Scott; several nephews and nieces; and many close friends including Faye Massey of Twin Falls, Idaho; Betty Malcom of Wichita; and Jerry Dannels of Toronto. She was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter, Cynthia Faye Whaley, and two brothers, Elmer Huffman and Kent Roger Eyman.
Graveside services will be held at 12:00 P.M., Friday, August 21, 2009, at Toronto Cemetery, in Toronto with Pastor Alan Hunter of the Jefferson Street Baptist Church officiating.
A memorial has been established in her name to Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice. Contributions may be sent in care of Koup Family Funeral Home at P.O. Box 595, Eureka, KS 67045, which was in charge of service arrangements.
