Howard Leon Vancil, of Fall River, died on Saturday, June 14, 2008 at Via Christi – St. Francis Regional Medical Center, in Wichita, at the age of 82.
He was born on November 30, 1925, in Toronto, the son of Everett and Buena (Burr) Vancil. He was raised in the Fall River, Toronto area, attending Fall River schools. On February 5, 1944, he was united in marriage to Coletta Mayne in Howard. They made their home in Fall River area. They lived a few years in California and El Dorado, before returning to Fall River.
Howard was an avid hunter.
He is survived by his wife, Coletta of the home; one daughter, Sharon Vancil of Eureka; two grandsons, Steve Vancil of Severy; and Kelly Vancil of Severy; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, one brother, and one sister.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Wednesday, June 18, 2008 at the Severy United Methodist Church in Severy, with Mr. Richard LaMunyon officiating. Interment will follow in South Lawn Cemetery. A viewing will be held from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M., Tuesday, at Koup Family Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be made to the American Cancer Society. Contributions may be sent in care of Koup Family Funeral Home at P.O. Box 595, Eureka, KS 67045, which was in charge of service arrangements.
