Howard Goodwin LaRue, died Jaunary 14, 2004, in Chandler Arizona, at 94 years of age.
He was born August 14, 1909, in Greenwood County, Kansas. He attended Triumph School until moving to Colorado where he went to school in Canon City and Colorado Springs. He moved back to Kansas and attended high school in Fall River.
October 1, 1931, he married Edna Lorene Dawson in Nevada, Missouri. They moved to Florence, Colorado where he barbered with his Dad for eleven and a half years. During World War II he worked at North American Aviation and Standard Oil in California for four and half years.
After the war he returned to Kansas to operate the Dawson farm and also raised cattle. He worked out of the ASCS office for Greenwood County for thirty-three years. He retired in 1977 and moved from the farm into the town of Toronto, and spent the winters in Chandler, Arizona until moving to Chandler permanently in the winter of 2000.
He was preceded in death by his parents Fred and Grace (Goodwin) LaRue; two brothers, Edgar and John; son, Richard; and grandson, Rodney Van Winkle.
Survivors include his wife Edna Lorene; brother, Harry LaRue of Hanford, California; daughter Mona Van Winkle of Chandler, Arizona; grandsons, Gary LaRue of Elbing, Kansas; Kent LaRue of Conroe, Texas, and Kevin Van Winkle of Chandler, Arizona, and seven great-grandchildren.
He was a member of the First Christian Church of Toronto, a fifty-five year member of the Woodson County Masonic Lodge #121, and a fifty year member of the Eastern Star, Golden Star Chapter # 173.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Monday, January 19, 2004 at the First Christian Church of Toronto with Pastor Gerald Zuck officiating. At 9:30 A.M. a visitation will be held at the church.
