Howard Douglas “Doug” Eddings, of Eureka, died at the Greenwood County Hospital on Tuesday, March 25, 2003, at the age of 64.
He was born in Hominy, Oklahoma on July 20, 1938, the son of Charlie Sherman and Flora Olive (Ward) Eddings. The family lived in Oklahoma until 1945, when they moved to Reece, Kansas. Doug attended Reece Grade School and graduated from Piedmont High School with the class of 1956.
In 1958, he entered the United States Marine Corp and served his country during the Korean conflict. On July 23, 1960, Doug was united in marriage to Janice Samuels in Miami, Oklahoma. After his discharge in 1962, they made their home in Eureka where he worked as a tool pusher in the oil fields. The marriage later ended in divorce.
In 1979, Doug was united in marriage to Karen Sue Williams in Arkansas City, Kansas. They made their home in Blackwell, Oklahoma until 1993, when he moved to Chalmette, Louisiana where Doug worked for the Mobile Oil Refinery. The marriage later ended in divorce. He returned to Eureka in January of 2003.
He was a member of VFW Post #2712 of Eureka.
He is survived by five daughters, Tami Jackson, Leann Stewart, and Amy Eddings all of Eureka, Brenda Hennessey of Abilene, Kansas, and Ashley Rains of Blackwell, Oklahoma, eight grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and three sisters, Lila Hess of El Dorado, Kansas, Martha Cyphers of Aledo, Texas, and June Woodling of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, March 29, 2003, at Koup Family Funeral Home in Eureka, with Pastor Roman Ward of Ramona, Oklahoma officiating. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery.
