Homer Wallace Brown, of Eureka, died Wednesday, May 21, 2003, at his residence at the age of 85.
He was born in Greenwood County, Kansas on June 19, 1917, the son of Earl L. and Cecil (Lyon) Brown. Homer was raised in the Climax/Eureka area and attended Hallett Rural School and graduated from Tonavay High School with the class of 1937.
After his schooling he farmed in the Eureka /Climax area and also worked at the Alfalfa Mill. On November 30, 1939, he was united in marriage to Enola Gibson in Eureka. In 1948 they moved to Virgil where Homer worked in the oilfields but also continued to farm. In 1963 they moved back to rural Eureka. Homer farmed, worked in the oilfield and did carpentry work until his death.
He was a member of the Christian and Congregational Church of Eureka, and was an avid hunter and fisherman with a love for the out of doors.
Survivors include his wife Enola, of the home, two sons, Russell of Jacksonville, Fl. and Gary of Eureka. One daughter Ruth Ann Peoples of Rose Hill, four grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren and one brother, Willis Brown of Eureka.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, May 24, 2003, at Koup Family Funeral Home in Eureka, with Pastor Alan Hunter of the Jefferson Street Baptist Church officiating. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery.
