Helen Marguerite Carver, of Eureka, died at the Greenwood County Hospital on Friday, June 10, 2005, at the age of 80.

She was born in Severy, Kansas on August 17, 1924, the daughter of Arthur and Loretta (Spears) Watchous. Helen was raised in the Severy area and attended rural Greenwood County schools.

In November of 1940, she was united in marriage to Tommy L. Brown. They made their home in the Madison and Eureka areas. In 1968, she was married to Tommy Ray Carver. They made their home in Texas. In the early 1970’s, Helen moved to El Dorado, Kansas, and in 1993, to Eureka. During her adult life she worked as a Certified Nurse’s Aid in area nursing homes and hospitals, she also worked in food service and managed a restaurant in Texas, along with being a security guard at the refinery in El Dorado.

Helen was a member of the First Baptist Church of El Dorado.

She is survived by one son, John Brown of Garnett, three daughters, Marge Stubbs of Eureka, Laura McCoy of Neal, and Christine Johnson of Sacramento, California, one brother, Kenneth Watchous of Arkansas City, five sisters, Gerry Boyd of Cherryvale, Pat Isom of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Mildred King of Lindale, Texas, Bertha Asay of White Settlement, Texas, and Virginia Perades of Bastrop, Texas, twenty grandchildren, twenty-one great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, Tommie Brown, two brothers, four sisters, one grandchild, and one great-grandchild.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Tuesday, June 14, 2005, at the Koup Family Funeral Home, with Pastor Larry Evans of the Neal Evangelical Free Church officiating. Interment will follow in Neal Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made in her name to the Medicalodge Activity Fund. Contributions may be sent in care of the funeral home.
