Helen Nadine Buffington, of Eureka, died at Ransom Memorial Hospital in Ottawa, Kansas on Monday, February 25, 2008, at the age of 93.
She was born in Greenwood County, Kansas on August 23, 1914, the daughter of Glad Eric and Myrtle Mae (Langton) Purkeypile. Helen was raised in Greenwood County and graduated from Hamilton High School. In 1934, she was united in marriage to Waymond Wesley Buffington in Howard, Kansas. They lived most of their married life in Eureka where Helen worked as a cook at the Little Castle restaurant. Waymond preceded her in death in 1968.
Helen was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church of Eureka.
She is survived by two sons, Paul Buffington of Medford, Oklahoma, and Phillip Buffington of Eureka, three daughters, Peggy Spain and Priscilla Weatherbee both of Ottawa, and Phyllis Howard of Burlison, Tennessee, nineteen grandchildren, thirty great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren, one brother, Burl Purkeypile of Eureka, and two sisters, Doris Segebartt of Genesee, Idaho, and Wanda Mitchell of El Dorado. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one daughter, Patsy Sanders, one grandson, three brothers, and three sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 P.M., Thursday, February 28, 2008, at the Koup Family Funeral Home, with Pastor Jeff Jorgensen of the Seventh Day Adventist Church officiating. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery.
Memorials have been established in her name to the Christian Care Cottage #2 and the Seventh Day Adventist Church of Eureka. Contributions may be sent in care of the funeral home.
