Hazel Rachel Reed, of Hamilton, died at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita on Thursday, April 20, 2006, at the age of 81.
She was born at rural Madison, Kansas on May 4, 1924, the daughter of Frank and Faye (Uhl) Linden. Hazel was raised in Greenwood County and attended country schools and Hamilton High School.
In 1944, she was united in marriage to William Edgar Walford. They moved to Washington State where Hazel worked for the Corp of Engineers. In the mid 1940’s they returned to rural Hamilton. William preceded her in death in 1956.
In 1958, Hazel was united in marriage to Neal Reed in Wichita. They have resided in Hamilton ever since.
Hazel was a member of the United Methodist Women’s Group, Garden Club, and had worked at the Hamilton Library for many years.
She is survived by her husband Neal, of the home, three sons, Franklin Walford of Providence, Rhode Island, Larry Walford of Eureka, and Daney Reed of Austin, Texas, two daughters, Debra Wallace of Eureka, and Lea Ann Michels of Emporia, six grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, four brothers, Jim Linden of Sterling, Kansas, Mason Linden of Elk Falls, Kansas, Fred Linden of Braham, Oklahoma, and John Linden of Hamilton, and four sisters, Rosie Stafford of Hamilton, Esther Pugh of El Dorado, Karen Sickler of Hartford, Kansas and Mavis Quinton of Oklahoma. She was preceded in death by her parent, first husband, William, one son, Ronald Walford, and one brother.
Graveside services and interment will be held at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, April 22, 2006, at Janesville Cemetery in Hamilton.
A memorial has been established in her name to the Hamilton Library. Contributions may be sent in care of the Koup Family Funeral Home, P.O. Box 595, Eureka, Kansas 67045, which is in charge of service arrangements.
