Hazel “Ruth” Lindamood, died on Sunday, June 26, 2011, at Heritage Village, in Bartlesville, Oklahoma, at the age of 93.
Ruth was born on August 3, 1917, near Newkirk, in Kay County, Oklahoma, the daughter of Thomas Riley and Jessie (Brown) Gilbert. At the age of three, she moved with her family to a farm east of Neal. She graduated from Neal High School, in 1935, and attended Emporia State Teachers College. She taught grades 1-8 at Fancy School for a year, and then taught at Tonovay for 4 years.
On May 20, 1939, Ruth was united in marriage to John Lindamood in Eureka. They lived on their ranch west of Quincy where they raised their three children and were active in the community. She always supported her children with their 4-H projects and for a few years attended 3 or 4 basketball games a week.
Ruth had been a member of the Greenwood County Extension club since 1947. She was also a member of the Greenwood County Cow Belles, Toronto Sororsis, Eureka Women’s Federated Club, Greenwood County Hospital Auxiliary, and the First United Methodist Church. She was an active member of the United Methodist Women both at Quincy and Eureka. Until the last few years, she baked many pies for church dinners. Ruth belonged to a Music Club at Quincy and sang alto in a trio. Ruth and John enjoyed their couples Pinochle club for 25 years.
After John’s death in 1986, Ruth enjoyed traveling, bowling, and coffee time with her friends. She liked to knit and read.
She is survived by her son, Raymond and wife, Nelda Lindamood of Fort Worth, Texas; son, Jack and wife, Becky Lindamood of Virgil; daughter, Kay and husband, Lloyd Sowers of Bartlesville, Oklahoma; five grandsons: Monty, Matt, Ladd, and Diltz Lindamood, and Derek Sowers; three granddaughters: Jilinda Robinson, Julie Denner, and ReEtta Roever; and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; four brothers: Richard, Leo, Eugene, and Theodore Gilbert; and two sisters: Inez Boone, and Eula Bolson.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Thursday, June 30, 2011 at Koup Family Funeral Home, in Eureka with Reverend Kenneth Baker of the First United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be made to the Eureka Public Library. Contributions may be sent in care of Koup Family Funeral Home at P.O. Box 595, Eureka, KS 67045, which was in charge of service arrangements.
