Hazel Bernice Brown of Eureka, died on Wednesday, September 8, 2010, at Greenwood County Hospital in Eureka, at the age of 89.
She was born on June 26, 1921, in Eureka, the daughter of Jesse and Sadie (Parsons) Lasater. She was raised in south central Kansas, graduating from Winfield High School. After her schooling she worked for Federal Crop Insurance, in El Dorado and Eureka.
On June 10, 1942, Hazel was united in marriage to Harold Dee Brown in California. They made their home in Eureka. Hazel retired in the early 1980’s. Harold preceded her in death on November 15, 1990. Hazel moved to Gridley in the early ‘90’s and returned in Eureka in 2002.
Hazel was a member of the Business and Professional Women Organization, the Order of the Eastern Star, and the First United Methodist Church of Eureka.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, September 11, 2010 at Koup Family Funeral Home, in Eureka with Pastor Kevin Lawrence of the Climax United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery. Viewing hours will be from 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, until service time.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be made to the Kansas Masonic Home. Contributions may be sent in care of Koup Family Funeral Home at P.O. Box 595, Eureka, KS 67045, which was in charge of service arrangements.
