Harry Edward Bailey Jr., of Eureka died on Tuesday, July 6, 2004, at Greenwood County Hospital in Eureka, Kansas at the age of 85.
Harry was born on October 29, 1918, in Carl Junction, Mo., the son of Harry and Barbara (Waters) Bailey. He was raised in Carl Junction, Mo., and graduated from Carl Junction High School with the class of 1936. After his schooling, he worked for Shumaker Drilling while moving to Severy, Kansas where he met his future wife.
On September 20, 1941, Harry was united in marriage to Barbara L. Lawman in Independence, Kansas. In February, 1942, he entered the United States Army and served his country with honor and dignity during World War II. After returning home, Harry and Barbara lived in Eureka where they raised four children, and Harry started his career with KP&L. Harry retired from KP&L in the late 1980’s as a General Foreman, and through the years was a member of the VFW Post 2712 of Eureka.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara; two sons, Tony Bailey of Farmington, N.M., and Steve Bailey of Eureka; two daughters, Diane Grundy of Albuquerque, N.M., and Jill Bailey of Eureka; nine grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and six sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, July 10, 2004, at Koup Family Funeral Home with Pastor Alan Hunter officiating. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery.
