Harris Lee Lewis, of Eureka, died on Friday, August 5, 2022, at Greenwood County Hospital, in Eureka, at the age of 74.
He was born April 4, 1948, in Eureka, the son of Harris Elbert and Edna Faye (Wheeler) Lewis. He was raised in Eureka and attended local schools, graduating with the Eureka High School Class of 1966. In the early 70’s, he moved to Joplin, Missouri, where he lived until the early 1980’s, when he returned to Eureka.
He was the lead mechanic at Scholfield Honda in Wichita, until he retired in the late 1980’s.
On July 23, 1983, Harris was united in marriage to Peggy Ellen Ockert in Miami, Oklahoma. They made their home in Eureka. Family and friends knew they could drive by Lee’s Garage any afternoon to visit and drink a beer. Harris loved fishing, hunting, old cars, and racing the old GTO he rebuilt, at Ark City.
He is survived by his wife, Peggy of the home; three children: Gregory Lee Lewis of Joplin, Missouri; Mark Allen Lewis of Joplin, Missouri; and Amanda and husband, Domenic Mussat of Wichita; three grandchildren: Jaxon Lee, Bosten, and Taylor; and two siblings: Charles Lewis of Eureka; and Brenda Meier of Climax. He was preceded in death by his parents; and five siblings: Kathryn Greenwood, Doris Bogle, Harriet Curnutt, Sierra Joy, and Roseletta Sponseller.
Memorial services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Monday, August 22, 2022, at Koup Family Funeral Home in Eureka. Cremation has been effected. A private family inurnment will follow at a later date at Greenwood Cemetery, Eureka.
