Harold Leroy Province of Eureka died on Wednesday, December 8, 2010, at Eureka Nursing Center in Eureka, at the age of 79.
He was born on June 30, 1931, in Eureka, the son of James L. and Evelyn R. (Bratton) Province. He was raised in Eureka and graduated from Eureka High School. After his schooling, Harold joined the United States Navy where he served with honor and dignity in the Korean Conflict. After his discharge, he worked for Wood Oil Company.
In 1955, Harold was united in marriage to Patricia Ann Duncan. They made their home in Eureka. In 1966, he purchased the El Dorado Sonic Drive-In franchise. He owned several others in Kansas and in Oklahoma. He later opened B & J Carry-Out. In Harold’s early sixties he “semi-retired,” though he continued to operated the concession stand at Eureka Downs every year, until he retired.
Harold was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #2712.
He is survived by his wife, Pat; two children, son, Monte Province of Oswego; and daughter, Sharon Boughner of Eureka; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, one grandchild, and one brother.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, December 11, 2010, at Koup Family Funeral Home, in Eureka with Mr. Jayme A. Koup officiating. Cremation has been effected.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be made to Alzheimer’s Association. Contributions may be sent in care of Koup Family Funeral Home at P.O. Box 595, Eureka, KS 67045, which was in charge of service arrangements.
