Harold Eugene McLean
Harold Eugene McLean passed away on Tuesday, February 4, 2014 at Greenwood County Hospital in Eureka at the age of 82.
He was born on April 13, 1931 in Severy to Walter Russell and Neva (Simmons) McLean.
Harold was raised in Piedmont. He attended local schools and graduated from Piedmont High School in 1949. After his schooling, he worked the family farm.
On October 31, 1954, he was united in marriage to Nancy “Eyvonnie” Tucker in Eureka, Kansas. They made their home in Piedmont and were happily married for 59 years.
Harold worked as a truck driver, a substitute mail carrier, and a school bus driver. He ran a hay hauling business for over 30 years. Throughout his life, he was an active member of the community, serving on the Piedmont School Board, the County and 4-H Extension Boards, the Kansas Polled Hereford Association, and as a Livestock Project Leader and 4-H Club Leader for the Harmony Sunflowers. Harold was a member of the Piedmont United Methodist Church.
Harold is survived by his wife, Eyvonnie; children, Gloria McLean of El Dorado; Crandell and Lisa McLean of Newcastle, OK; Joshline McLean and Vijay Gounder of Elk Grove, CA; Dana and Tim Burke of Eureka; Rochelle and Calvin Schrock of Bennet, NE; Jeff McLean of Piedmont; and Eric McLean of Piedmont; and one sister, Neola Miller of Eureka; and many nieces and nephews.
He will be fondly remembered by his grandchildren—Jimi Burke; Jasey Burke, Hayley and Stephen Sparks; Megan McLean and Luke Lundgren; Erin McLean and Justin Boggs; Jessalyn Schrock; and Garret Schrock; and great-granddaughter—Madeline Sparks.
He will be remembered for his generous spirit and helping hand toward his neighbors, and dedication to his family and children.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00am, Friday, February 7, 2014 at Koup Family Funeral Home in Eureka. Interment will follow at Piedmont Cemetery.
