Harold Henderson, of Eureka, died Tuesday, January 16, 2007, at home in Eureka, at the age of 74.
He was born on July 19, 1932, in Severy, the son of Raymond and Ena (Johnson) Henderson. He was raised in Severy, and graduated from Severy High School. From 1950, to 1953, he attended Southwestern University in Winfield. In 1953, after graduation, he joined the military. He served his country with honor and dignity in the US Army 63rd Ordnance Company, in Germany until 1955.
In 1957, he began working as a partner at the Henderson & Sweet Law Offices, in Salina. In 1959, he attended Washburn University in Topeka. He graduated in 1961, with a law degree. Starting in 1972, he spent two years as a Court Judge in Salina. In 1974, he moved to Eureka and began working for Hibbard Abstract. He purchased it shortly thereafter, creating The Title Company, and The Closing Company, where he worked until his death. From 1985, to 1997, he was the owner of “Sneakers,” an athletic shoe store in Lawrence.
He was a member and major participant in the Eureka High School Booster Club, a statistician for the high school from 1974, to 1989, a volunteer for the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, a Mason, a member of the Pi Gamma Mu fraternity, a member of the National Social Science Honor Society, and a mentor and caregiver to many, many young men of Greenwood County.
Survivors include one son, Richard M. Henderson of Emporia; one step-grandson; two brothers, Carl Henderson of Grand, Oklahoma; and Keith Henderson of Emporia; and one sister, Wanda Evans of Fall River. He was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother, Bruce.
Memorial services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Sunday, January 21, 2007, at Eureka High School, in Eureka. Cremation has been effected. A private family inurnment will be held at a later date.
