Grogan Marshall Ebberts of rural Eureka, died on June 15, 2009 (age 79) at his cabin in the country.
He was born on February 19, 1930 at Keighley, Kansas. The son of Leo Martin and Ruth (Satchell) Ebberts. Grogan was raised in rural Greenwood County and graduated from Tonovay High School in 1948. After his schooling he then worked as a farmer/rancher and oil/gas and groundwater well industries. Later the family moved to Emporia so Grogan could attend Kansas State Teachers College, graduating in 1967 with a Bachelors of Science Degree in Art Education. Grogan then taught art at the Flint Hills Educational Research Development Association, later teaching at College of Emporia. Grogan loved teaching and working in his artistic endeavors’, including painting, sculpting, and pottery. Grogan’s art was a life long love he has left us his legacy.
On May 21, 1951, Grogan was united in marriage to Shirlee Maxine Short in Eureka, Kansas. They made their home in rural Greenwood County where they began raising their family. He never stopped working in the oil/gas and water well industry and was an avid gardener specializing in elders, brambles, and bees.
He was a member of the Kansas Groundwater Association. He was also a boardmember for the Utopia Sunday School.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Shirlee of Emporia, Kansas; one, son, Jason Ebberts of Overland Park, Kansas; two daughters, Carmen Wilson of Admire, Kansas and Crystal Hendrix of Hamilton, Kansas; four grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; two brothers; Ron Ebberts of Eureka, Kansas and Ray Ebberts of Topeka, Kansas. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister Sharon Kay.
A memorial service in celebration of his life will be held at 1:00 P.M., Saturday, July 25, 2009 at Christian Hills Camp at 1264 M50 Road, Eureka, Kansas. With Pastor Larry Moore officiating. Cremation has been effected. The Family will greet friends from 1:00 P.M. to 3:00 P.M., Saturday, July 25, 2009.
