Glenda Mae Hughes, formerly of Eureka, went to meet her Savior on Wednesday, August 24, 2016 at Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital, in El Dorado, at the age of 77.
She was born on April 28, 1939, in Chetopa, Kansas, the daughter of Orville Glen and Mary Opal (Berkenmier) Neth. She was raised in Chetopa and Parsons, but moved to Eureka where she graduated. She later attended Butler County Community College and Flight Attendant School in Nebraska. On January 2, 1958, Glenda was united in marriage to Willard Emanuel “Bud” Hughes in Fredonia. They made their home on the farm southeast of Eureka. To this union, four children were born.
Glenda worked for Eureka schools for many years as a bus driver and paraprofessional in the learning disabilities classroom. She was a member of the Jefferson Street Baptist Church of Eureka. Bud preceded her in death on January 15, 2007.
She is survived by four children: son, Randy and wife, Laura Hughes of Pleasant Hill, California; daughter, Terri and husband, Jerry Courter of Augusta; son, Andy and wife, Karen Hughes of Eureka; and daughter, Cathy and husband, Keith Yeubanks of El Dorado; ten grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and one brother, Harlyn Neth.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, August 27, 2016 at the Jefferson Street Baptist Church in Eureka with Pastor Alan Hunter officiating. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be made to the Jefferson Street Baptist Church or to Greenwood County Hospital.
