Glen Edward Wright, of Eureka, died on January 10, 2011, at the Greenwood County Hospital at the age of 86.
He was born on September 21, 1924, in Piedmont, Kansas, the son of George Walter and Cora Myrtle (Walker) Wright. Glen was raised in Piedmont and attended schools there. After his schooling he joined the United States Army and served his country with honor and dignity during World War II. When Glen was discharged he moved to Florence, Kansas, where he worked in the oil fields.
On June 20, 1948, Glen was united in marriage to Beth Thompson in Wonsevu, Kansas. The family moved to Greenwood County in 1950, where he worked for the Department of Agriculture selling Federal Crop Insurance. Later he went back to the oil fields and raised cattle until his retirement in 2004.
Glen was a member of the Christian & Congregational Church serving on the church board for several years, the Masonic Lodge, the Midian Shrine, Eastern Star and the VFW.
Glen is survived by his wife, Beth of the home; daughter, Patricia (Scott) Higbee of Grand Rapids, Minnesota; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one brother, Carl Wright of Eureka. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, and one sister.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, January 15, 2011 at the Christian & Congregational Church, in Eureka with Reverend Rhonda Almond officiating. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery.
A memorial has been established in his name to the Christian and Congregational Church. Contributions may be sent in care of Koup Family Funeral Home at P.O. Box 595, Eureka, KS 67045, which was in charge of service arrangements.
