Glen Wilbur Hardesty, of Neal, died at the Greenwood County Hospital on Tuesday, September 16, 2003, at the age of 82.
He was born in Gridley, Kansas on March 17, 1921, the son of Jess and Aryle (Haynes) Hardesty. He was raised in Yates Center and attended Yates Center schools. After his schooling he entered the United States Army and served his country with honor during World War II. Upon his discharge, Glen moved to Ottawa and worked as a fireman, at a tire repair shop, and also in a steel plant.
On April 22, 1974, he was united in marriage to Olive Hamilton in Atchison. The couple made their home in Neal where Glen worked in the oil fields in and around Greenwood and Woodson Counties. He retired in 1983.
He was a life member of V.F.W. Post 5901 of Ottawa and attended the Neal Evangelical Free Church.
He is survived by his wife, Olive, of the home, son, Ronald of Oregon City, Oregon, daughter, Rita Kay Hardesty-Simon of Kansas City, Kansas, stepsons, Marion Jones of Topeka and Herrold “Babe” Jones of Toronto, and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, and one sister.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Friday, September19, 2003, at the Koup Family Funeral Home with Pastor Larry Evans of the Neal Evangelical Free Church officiating.
