Glen Butler
Glen Harold Butler of Eureka, died on Tuesday, March 12, 2013 at his home in Eureka, at the age of 88.
He was born on October 24, 1924, in Eureka, the son of Harold and Hazel (Nelson) Butler. He was raised in the Eureka area and graduated from Tonovay High School in 1943. After his schooling, he was drafted into the United States Army where he served his country with honor and dignity during World War II. After his discharge, he returned to Eureka.
On December 28, 1949, Glen was united in marriage to Faith Boone. They made their home in rural Greenwood County where Glen raised hogs and farmed as long as his health would allow.
Glen was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Eureka, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #2712, the Union School Board, and Rural Water District #2.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Wayne, and sister, Dorthy.
He is survived by his wife, Faith of the home; daughter, Jeanne Bane of Fairfield, California; daughter, Susie Edwards of El Dorado; son, Leland Butler of Virgil; daughter, Jerri Hughes of Franklin, Texas; son, Bradley Butler of Ringling, Oklahoma; fourteen grandchildren; four 1/3 great-grandchildren; four brothers, Albert Butler of Neal; Jack Butler of Waynesville, Missouri; Steven Butler of Humboldt; and Richard Butler of Augusta; and two sisters, Wanda Frakes of Eureka; and Dixie Holm of Maui, Hawaii.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Friday, March 15, 2013 at Koup Family Funeral Home, in Eureka with Pastor Stan Seymour of the First Christian Church of El Dorado officiating. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation hours are from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M., Thursday, at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be made to the Greenwood County Historical Society. Contributions may be sent in care of Koup Family Funeral Home, P.O. Box 595, Eureka, KS 67045, which was in charge of service arrangements.
