Gilford Earl Samuels, 73, died Friday, May 25, 2012 in El Dorado.

He was born on August 29, 1938, in Longton, Kansas, the son of Willis G. “Bud” and June Arlora (Ford) Samuels. He attended schools in Eureka and graduated from Eureka High School. Gilford served in the Kansas National Guard from 1956 to 1958. He worked for Skelly Refinery for 13 years. He later worked for the Kansas Department of Safety, during which time he also worked with his cousin, Charlie Samuels with the Greenwood County Sheriff’s Department.

On August 2, 1958, Gilford was united in marriage to Janice Sue Kimball in Eureka. They made their home in Eureka. In 1960, they moved to El Dorado and have resided there since. In 2010, he retired after 38 years of service as an Industrial Safety Inspector for the state of Kansas.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and gardening.

He is survived by his wife, Janice of the home; three sons, David and wife, Penny Samuels of Indiana; Randy and wife, Becky Samuels of Eureka; and Greg and wife, Kathy Samuels of Towanda; ten grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren; one brother, Harold and wife, Gladys Samuels of El Dorado; and two sisters, Janice and husband, Ed Escareno of Eureka; and Sharon and husband, Jerry Clark of Eureka.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, May 29, 2012 at Koup Family Funeral Home, in Eureka with Pastors Lana Osborn and Jerry Clark officiating. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery. A dinner for family and friends will be held at the VFW Post #2712 in Eureka, immediately following the interment. Visitation hours are from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M., Monday, at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be made to the Eureka Recreation Department. Contributions may be sent in care of Koup Family Funeral Home at P.O. Box 595, Eureka, KS 67045, which was in charge of service arrangements.
