Gilbert Lyle Daniel, 74, died August 30th, 2010, at the Greenwood County Hospital, in Eureka.
He was born October 18, 1935 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Winfield, the son of Ralph and Agnes (Martin) Daniel of Dexter. He married Bessie McGaugh on May 31st, 1957 at Central Christian Church in Arkansas City, KS.
Dr. Daniel was ordained to the Christian Ministry at the Dexter Christian Church in Dexter, in January of 1961, serving the Wilmot Christian Church, Prairie View Community Church, and Maple City Church during his years attending college at Phillips University in Enid, Oklahoma. He also served as Assistant Minister of the Augusta Christian Church. He served the Huntsville (Disciples of Christ) Christian Church in Huntsville, Misouri while attaining his Master’s Of Divinity in May of 1965 at the University of Missouri, Columbia, Missouri.
He served the Coldbrook Christian Church in Cameron, Illinois 1965-1972, moving to Eureka, to serve the Eureka Christian and Congregational Church until his retirement in 1994. He attained his Doctorate of Divinity from Phillips University in Enid, Oklahoma. He and Bessie moved to Centralia, Illinois in 1994. He served as part time minister of the Sandoval Christian Church from 1996-2002, moving back to Eureka, KS. Dr. Daniel was a Mason and involved in numerous civic organizations throughout his career in the ministry.
He is survived by his wife, Bessie, of 53 years; brother, Delbert Daniel of Wichita; daughters, Tammie McCarthy of St. Peter, Illinois, and Tiffany Hanson of Eureka; son, Tony Daniel of Winfield; two grandchildren, Tom McCarthy of Kinmundy, Illinois, and Emily Hanson of Eureka; step-grandchild, Ashley Hanson of Liberty, Missouri; and a great-grandchild, Audrey McCarthy. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Memorial services will be held at the Christian and Congregational Church, 117 E. 3rd St., Eureka, at 2:00 P.M., Thursday, September 2nd , 2010 with Pastor Tim Carey officiating. A private family inurnment will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be made to the Christian and Congregational Church of Eureka, or the Greenwood County Hospital. Contributions may be sent in care of Koup Family Funeral Home at P.O. Box 595, Eureka, KS 67045, which was in charge of service arrangements.
