George Morgan James, of Eureka, died on January 3, 2006, at his residence in Eureka, Kansas, at the age of 92.
He was born on June 30, 1913, in Climax, Kansas, the son of William Lonzo and Louella (Kingery) James. He was raised in Eureka, and graduated from Eureka High School in 1931. George played in the band and orchestra, and was a member of the debate team. After school, he worked as a grocery clerk and as a hardware clerk for most of his life.
On May 2, 1937, he married Ruth Portenier in Severy, Kansas. They made their home in Eureka, where they raised their two children.
He was a member of the Christian & Congregational Church. George served as an elder for several years and taught an adult Sunday school class for about 30 years.
He is survived by his son, Don James of Theodoshia, Missouri; and daughter Carol Davis of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, brother, and sister.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, January 7, 2006, at Koup Family Funeral Home, with Reverend Rhonda K. Almond officiating. Interment followed at Greenwood Cemetery.
