George Fechter, of Emporia, died on Wednesday, July 27, 2011 at Presbyterian Manor in Emporia at the age of 102.

He was born on August 31, 1908, in Hilltop, Kansas, the son of Henry and Anna (Dreyer) Fechter. He was raised in Hilltop and attended local schools. Early he began working on the family farm and lived in Hamilton.

On November 13, 1956, George was united in marriage to Alta “Jenevia” (Hensley) Fechter in Emporia. They made their home in Hamilton where George built a new home for them. In 1976, he retired and they moved to Emporia. Jenevia preceded him in death on September 5, 2000.

George was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church of Emporia and Farm Bureau Association.

He is survived by one sister, Goldie Beck of Quincy, Illinois; one sister-in-law, Melba Fechter of Hamilton; and numerous nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents, and four brothers.

Graveside services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, July 30, 2011 at Janesville Cemetery in Hamilton with Pastor Mark Demas of the Hamilton United Methodist Church officiating. Koup Family Funeral Home was in charge of service arrangements.
