George Vernon Blankley, of Neal, died at Via Chriti - St. Francis Medical Center on Thursday, November 14, 2002, at the age of 73.
He was born on September 1, 1929, in Alamosa, Colorado to George Markum and Opal (Hamilton) Blankley. George was raised in Hartford, Kansas and graduated from Hartford High School with the class of 1948. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.
On September 20, 1950, George was united in marriage to Doris Benson at Gridley, Kansas. They made their home in Neal, Kansas.
George farmed south of Neal and owned the Neal Garage. He also worked in maintenance for Rural Water District #2. He was a member of the Eureka Gideon Camp.
He is survived by a son, Vernon Blankley of Emporia; two daughters Colleen Webster of Gardner, and Audrey Meyer of Westphalia; a brother, Walter Blankley, Jr of Emporia; two sisters, Irene Mishler of Emporia, and Joann Bath of Jacksonville, Florida; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and one sister.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M.m Monday, November 18, 2002, at the Koup Family Funeral Home with Pastor Larry Evans of the Neal Evangelical Free Church officiating. Interment will follow in the Neal Cemetery.
