Geneva Marie Barnum, of Eureka, died at Medicalodge of Eureka on Tuesday, October 26, 2004, at the age of 80.
She was born in Andale, Kansas on December 7, 1923, the daughter of Joseph Peter and Anna Sephrina (Schmidt) Orth. Geneva was raised in Andale and attended school there. After her schooling she worked at various jobs in Wichita.
On August 5, 1942, she was united in marriage to Everett “Barney” Barnum in Andale. They made their home in Wichita where Geneva was a homemaker. After Barney’s retirement in 1979, the couple moved to Fall River Lake. In 1989, they moved to Eureka. Barney preceded her in death on July 14, 2002.
She is survived by two sons, Everett “Barney” Barnum Jr. of Mooresville, North Carolina and David Barnum of Chicago, Illinois, two daughters, Jeanette Matison of Las Vegas, Nevada and Darlene Barnum of Savannah, Georgia, twelve grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren, three brothers, Justin Orth of Kansas City, Kansas, Joe Orth of Wichita, and Daniel Orth of Ireland, and two sisters, Dolores Bates and Janice Orth both of Wichita. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and six brothers and sisters.
The Christian Mass of Burial will be held at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, October 30, 2004, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Eureka, with Father Leo Kerschen officiating. Entombment will follow at Resurrection Mausoleum in Wichita with Father Michael Peltzer officiating.
A memorial has been established in her name to the Sacred Heart Catholic Church Altar Society. Contributions may be sent in care of the Koup Family Funeral Home which was in charge of service arrangements.
