Gene Lee Whitehead, of Topeka, Kansas, died on May 1, 2005 at Eventide Convalescent Center in Topeka, Kansas at the age of 72.
He was born on March 27, 1933 in Eureka, Kansas, the son of Phillip and Ruby (French) Whitehead. He was raised in El Dorado, Kansas attending El Dorado schools. After his schooling he joined the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.
He married Jeanette Kirk and to this union four children were born. This marriage later ended in divorce. He worked as a farm hand for many years before having to retire due to illness.
He is survived by two daughters, Cindy and Cathy; two sons, Greg and Karl Whitehead; one brother, Phillip Whitehead of Eureka, Kansas; three sisters, Karolyn Kinsey of Washington, D.C., Joyce Lauterbach of Olathe, Kansas and Sandy Weber of Olathe, Kansas. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one sister, and great-uncle former Greenwood Sheriff Jim French.
Funeral services were held at 1:00 P.M., Thursday, May 5, 2005 at Koup Family Funeral Home with Mr. Roger Ratcliff officiating. Interment was a Greenwood Cemetery.
