Gene Woodson Francis, of Eureka, died on Wednesday, December 24, 2003, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma at the age of 70.
He was born in Perryton, Texas on February 21, 1933, the son of Joseph and Nina (Glasgow) Francis. He was raised in Eureka and graduated from Eureka High School. After high school he attended college for a short time before entering in the United States Army Field Artillery Unit and serving his country with honor during the Korean Conflict. Upon his discharge he attended Kansas State Teachers College in Emporia and received his bachelor’s degree in accounting. After graduation he worked for Cessna Aircraft in Wichita and in the family business, Francis Plumbing and Heating, before starting his career as a Certified Public Accountant in Dodge City, Kansas.
Gene was a member of the Central Christian Church of Wichita, the VFW, Lions Club, American Legion, National Rifle Association, Ark Valley Gun Club and the Certified Public Accountants Association.
He is survived by one son; Mark Francis of Rose Hill, three daughters; Kim Davis of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Michelle Francis and Alison Asher of Wichita, three brothers; Henry Francis and Richard Francis of Eureka and Davis Francis of Lincoln, Nebraska, and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services were held at 10:00 A.M., Monday, December 27, 2003, at Koup Family Funeral Home with Pastor Dariel O’ Bar of the Central Christian Church officiating. Interment followed in Greenwood Cemetery.
