Gary B. Worford, of Eureka, died Saturday, September 04, 2004, at the Greenwood County Hospital at the age of 64.
He was born in Eureka on January 12, 1940, the son of Frank and Sylvia (Highsmith) Worford. He was raised in the Hamilton area and graduated from Hamilton High School. Gary then attended Kansas State Teachers College in Emporia for two years before entering the United States Navy. He served his country with honor and dignity, retiring after twenty years of service in 1980. After his retirement he resided in Pensacola, Florida where he worked as an insurance agent. In 1984, Gary moved to Eureka and worked at the Greenwood County Court House and later at the Kansas Department of Transportation. On January 19, 1990, he was united in marriage to Veda Mize in Eureka.
Gary was a member of the Eureka Seventh Day Adventist Church and the Yates Center Kiwanis Club.
He is survived by his wife, Veda, of the home, two daughters, Laurinda Baucom of Haskell, Oklahoma, and Nathalei Townson of Jenks, Oklahoma, one step-son, Robert McCoy of Bethany, Oklahoma, two step-daughters, Cristie Dreher of Auburn, Kansas, and Edie Moran of Claremore, Oklahoma, fourteen grandchildren, one great-grandchild, one brother, Harold Worford of Wichita, Kansas and one sister, Mildred Stevens of Dodge City, Kansas. He was preceded in death by his parents and one daughter, Tabitha Worford.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, September 8, 2004, at Koup Family Funeral Home, with Pastor Steve Keiser of the Eureka Seventh Day Adventist Church officiating. Interment will follow in Quincy Cemetery
A memorial has been established in his name to the American Lung Association. Contributions may be sent in care of the funeral home.
