Freddie Andrew Ashlock, of Eureka, formerly of Virgil, died on February 20, 2007, at his residence in Eureka, at the age of 90.
He was born in Fredonia, on November 2, 1916, the son of Fred Marion and Sadie May (Sharp) Ashlock. Freddie was raised in the Greenwood County area and attended rural Greenwood County Schools going to high school in Neal. He lived in the Quincy and Virgil area where he farmed and traded livestock, worked on the railroad, drove a school bus, and worked the oil fields. He retired in the early 1970’s. He moved to Eureka in February of 2006.
On June 22, 1938, he was united in marriage to Dolores Gwendlyn Williams in Greenwood County. They made their home in the Quincy and Virgil area.
Freddie was a member of the Quincy Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Dolores; three daughters, LaVerne Ashlock of Virgil; Elsie Nichols and husband, Arnold of Eureka; and Linda Corbin and husband, Steve of Emporia; seven grandchildren, Lloyd, Floyd, Janine, Stephanie, Philip, Jill, and Tony; and seven great-grandchildren, Cali, Casey, Cayte, Tyler, Jacob, Alyssa, and Riley; one brother, James Ashlock of Virgil; one sister, Dorothy Denchfield of Neal; and several nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, and five sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Friday, February 23, 2007, at Koup Family Funeral Home with Pastor Alan Hunter officiating. Interment will follow at Virgil Cemetery. Viewing will be from 9-5 on Thursday.
