Fred Donald Stuber, of Eureka, died at his residence on December 18, 2003 at the age of 65.

He was born on January 5, 1938, in Climax, the son of Virgil L. and Alice (Moore) Stuber. He was raised west of Climax, and attended local schools until his junior year. Fred then attended Eureka Junior/Senior High School and graduated with the class of 1955. He worked in the oilfields, as a farmer, and for the Eureka Street Department. In 1959, he went to work for Western Power & Gas, which was purchased by the Greeley Gas Company in 1969. Fred worked for them for thirty-five and half years until his retirement in 1994 as Division Superintendent. He also operated a car wash from 1983 until 1995.

In 1957, he married Marilyn Van Buskirk, and they had three children. He and Marilyn were divorced in 1985. In 1987, he married Linda (Smith) Cowell.

Fred loved to hunt for quail and raccoon, and was a lifetime member of the Eureka Gun Club.

He is survived by his wife Linda, of the home; one son, Fred R. Stuber of Eureka; one step-son, Michael Cowell of Euless, Texas; daughters, Cynthia Penner of El Dorado, and Natalie Cline-Sears of Eureka; one step-daughter, Cindy Carmichael of Wichita; six grandchildren, Stephanie Winn, Sonya Kerns Held and husband Fred Held, Amber Young, Nathaniel Young, and Chris Penner; one step-grandson, Allen Harman; four great-grandchildren, Tristan Young, Kyler Heinzman, and twin great-grandsons Blake and Kade Winn; four brothers, Virgil Stuber of Eureka, Edward Stuber of Gillette, Wyoming, Jack Stuber of Eureka, and Roger Stuber of Concordia; four sisters, Barbara Butler of Eureka, Sherry Williams of Eureka, Julie Clopton of Olathe, and Peggy Hawthorne of Carthage, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and three brothers.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Monday, December 22, 2003 at Koup Family Funeral Home with Reverend Dr. Gilbert Daniel officiating. Inurnment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Greenwood County Hospital. Contributions may be sent in care of the funeral home.
