Fred LeRoy Buster of Eureka, died on Monday, January 28, 2008 at his home in Eureka, at the age of 85.
He was born on September 3, 1922, in Tyro, Kansas, the son of Earl Franklin and Hilda Olive (Prouty) Buster. He was raised in Teterville and attended local grade schools. He attended and graduated from Eureka High School with the class of 1941. On December 11, 1942, he entered the United States Army, serving his country with honor and dignity during World War II.
On January 1, 1946 he was united in marriage to Dorothy Samuels. This marriage later ended in divorce.
In 1949, he began his career with the United States Postal Service. He retired on July 31, 1981, after thirty-two years of service. On May 24, 1975, he was united in marriage to Linda Lozier in Eureka, where they made their home.
After his retirement he drove a school bus and worked as a custodian for U.S.D. #389. He was active in Boy Scouts and Youth Baseball for many years. He was a Life Member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #2712, a Life Member of Disabled American Veterans Chapter #8, and served a term as Kansas State Commander for the Disable American Veterans. Fred was an active member of the V.F.W. Military Funeral Squad. He was a member of the Christ Lutheran Church.
He is survived by his wife, Linda; four sons, Fred Leon and wife, Anita Buster; Steven and wife, Mary Buster of Emporia; James Buster of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; Stephen and wife, Pam Buster of Andover; six grandchildren, Amanda Buster, Lida Buster of Emporia, and Cameron, Kyla, Addyson, and Brec Buster of Andover; one brother, Bill and wife, Ann Buster of Mesa, Arizona; one sister, Mary and husband, Perry Smith of Hemphill, Texas; several nephews and nieces; and many extended family members, Freida Buster of Huntsville, Texas; Sheila and husband, Bill Wilson of Overland Park; Larry Dauber of Eureka; Edith and husband, Albert Roglin of Emporia; Sally Roglin of Emporia; Virginia and husband, Steve Honomichl of Baldwin City; and Robert and wife, Sandra Lozier of Woodbridge, Virginia.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Jimmie and Otho, and one sister, Delora Mae Thackeray.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, February 2, 2008, at Koup Family Funeral Home, in Eureka with Pastor Alan Hunter of the Jefferson Street Baptist Church officiating. A visitation will be held from 9:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M., before the funeral.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be made to Hand in Hand Hospice. Contributions may be sent in care of Koup Family Funeral Home at P.O. Box 595, Eureka, KS 67045, which was in charge of service arrangements.
