Fred Bonner Ball of Eureka, died on Wednesday, August 11, 2010 at Greenwood County Hospital, in Eureka, at the age of 87.
He was born on March 19, 1923, in Eureka, the son of Frank and Cova (Snuffer) Ball. He was raised in Eureka and attended local schools. He won many ribbons for his running ability at County school track meets. During World War II, Fred served with the U.S. Coast Guard. He was stationed in the South Pacific and was at Normandy on D-Day.
In 1949, Fred was united in marriage to Phyllis Klein. To this union, three children were born. After his discharge, he owned the Sinclair service station in Eureka for many years and later worked for Skelly service until his retirement. In 1978, Fred was united in marriage to Dorothy Samuels. She preceded him in death in 2003.
Fred was a member of the Christian & Congregational Church., and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #2712. He took great pride in volunteering to furnish those in need of medical equipment.
He is survived by two sons, Marlin Ball of Emporia; and Glen and wife, Melody Ball of Cleburne, Texas; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one brother, F. Vernon Ball of Eureka; and one sister, Betty Jo (Ball) Ebberts of Topeka. He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Michael D. Ball, three sisters, and five brothers.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Tuesday, August 17, 2010 at Koup Family Funeral Home, in Eureka, with Reverend Rhonda K. Almond of the Christian & Congregational Church officiating. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation hours are from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M., Monday, at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be made to the Eureka Senior Center. Contributions may be sent in care of Koup Family Funeral Home at P.O. Box 595, Eureka, KS 67045, which was in charge of service arrangements.
