Franklin “Del” Gaines Jr. of Hamilton, Kansas, died on September 29, 2004 at his residence at the age of 49.

Del was born on February 18, 1955 in El Dorado, Kansas the son of Franklin and Barbara (Barnes) Gaines. He was raised in Augusta and graduated from Augusta High School. He was a boy scout earning the Order of the Arrow medal. After graduation Del joined the Marines and served his country with honor and dignity, earning the good conduct, meritorious mast and rifle expert medals. Del then returned to college attending Butler Community College and Kansas University. He worked in the oil fields as a roughneck and driller.

He is survived by his parents; brother Bill of Hamilton; sister Beth Winkler of Yukon, Oklahoma; step-mother Beverly Gaines; and step-brother Shelby Summers of Seattle, Washington; nephew Jacob Winkler.

Memorial services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, October 6, 2004 at the Jefferson Street Baptist Church of Eureka with Pastor Alan Hunter officiating. Cremation has been effected.
