Franklin Delano Bumgardner, of Eureka, died on Wednesday, December 1, 2010 at Greenwood County Hospital in Eureka, at the age of 77.
He was born on November 16, 1933, in Sealy, the son of Allen Ray and Sylvia Lillian (Milner) Bumgardner. He was raised in Eureka and graduated from Eureka High School. After his schooling, he served in the United States Navy SeaBees, doing cleanup construction work in Korea after the conflict had subsided.
On February 4, 1958, Frank was united in marriage to Mary Ann Maltby in Miami, Oklahoma. They made their home in Eureka. When he returned to the states he worked in construction and later became an over-the-road truck driver, where he was known, by his CB handle, as Rosebud, his grandson now has his handle. Frank eventually was forced to retire for health reasons.
Frank was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Eureka. He was a fan of western movies and college football, in particular the Texas Longhorns.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann of the home; three sons and one daughter, James A. “Doc” Bumgardner of Eureka; Billy Joe Bumgardner of Eureka; Bobby Jack Bumgardner of Eureka; and Janie Mackey of El Dorado; fourteen grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Aline Elrod of Oregon; Lu Anne Urlich of Colorado Springs, Colorado; and Jackie Miller of Eureka. He was preceded in death by his parents, and three sisters.
Memorial services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Sunday, December 5, 2010, at Koup Family Funeral Home, in Eureka with Mr. Jayme A. Koup officiating. Cremation has been effected. Immediately following the services, a luncheon will be served at the Eureka Senior Center.
