Frances Marie Markley, of Eureka, died on Tuesday, November 2, 2004, at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita at the age of 81.
She was born on February 24, 1923, in rural Butler County, Kansas, the daughter of Clarence Lee and Ina Mae (Pierce) Foster. Frances attended Foster rural grade school and El Dorado High School, graduating with the class of 1940. After high school she attended the Wichita Business College. She then worked for Boeing in Wichita as the secretary to the president of production.
On January 12, 1947, Frances was united in marriage to Claud C. Markley in El Dorado. After their marriage she worked for K T Oil Company in El Dorado before starting her career, as a Court Reporter for the State of Kansas in District 13. When she retired, after 25 years of service, she was the last Gregg shorthand court reporter in the state. She and Claud moved to Eureka in 1957.
Frances was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Eureka, the National Shorthand Reporters Association, the Shorthand Reporters Association of Kansas, of which she was a past president, and a member of the Mother’s Club.
She is survived by her husband, Claud of the home, one son, Larry Markley of Eureka Springs, Arkansas, one daughter, Pamela Metzer of Pomona, California, four grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and one sister, Marion Krutsinger of Wildomar, California. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 P.M., Saturday, November 6, 2004, at Koup Family Funeral Home in Eureka with Reverend Diana Hill of the First United Methodist Church of Eureka, and Reverend Bill Hickerson of the Newton Church of Christ officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Lawn Cemetery in El Dorado.
