Forest L. Graves
Forest Leroy Graves of Eureka, died on Thursday, July 16, 2015 at his home in Eureka, at the age of 88.
He was born on March 10, 1927, in Greensburg, Kansas, the son of Louis and Zelma (Kerrick) Graves. He was raised in Greensburg and graduated from local schools. After graduating, he served in the United States Army as a trainer in California. He then moved to Denver, where he attended jewelers school to become a watchmaker.
On, May 29, 1948, Forest was united in marriage to Beverly Carolyn Sprout, in Denver, Colorado. The family moved to Pratt, then to Sedan, Kansas, where he was a jeweler for 10 years and then a postman for five years. They finally settled in Eureka in 1966. Forest became a Farm Bureau adjuster until he retired in the late 1980’s.
Forest loved to travel, and in his later years, wintered in Mission, Texas. He was an excellent golfer, and has golfed since the age of 21. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, and belonged to the church choir. He was also a member of the Eureka Country Club for 49 years.
He is survived by one son, Steve Graves, of Topeka; and one daughter, Cynthia Brubaker of Eureka; four grandchildren: Zachary Graves, Gretchen Reed, Noah Brubaker, and Dakota Brubaker; four great-grandchildren: Maria Graves, Anastasia Graves, Hanna Reed, and Sylas Brubaker; and three sisters, Clorene Smith of Newton; Charlotte Tabor of Lindsay, Oklahoma; and Carolyn Clark of Neodesha. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Beverly; and two brothers, Orie Graves and Paul Graves.
Memorial services will be held 10:00 A.M., Monday, July 20, 2015 at Koup Family Funeral Home with Pastor Kevin Lawrence of the Climax United Methodist Church officiating. Inurnment will follow at 3:00 P.M., at Fairview Cemetery, Greensburg, Kansas.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be made to Eureka Youth Golf Program. Contributions may be sent of care of Koup Family Funeral Home, P.O. Box 595, Eureka, Kansas 67045, which was in charge of service arrangements.
