Florence Irene "Cookie" Moon
August 29, 1927 — July 17, 2004
Florence Irene Moon, of Eureka, died on Saturday, July 17, 2004 at Via Christi – St. Francis Regional Medical Center in Wichita, at the age of 76.
She was born on August 29, 1927 in Toronto, the daughter of Alfred and Jenny (Summers) Sowder. She was raised in Toronto and graduated from Toronto High School. After her schooling, she worked for New York Life Insurance Company in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. She was later transferred to the Wichita office.
On May 27, 1950, she was united in marriage to Rex Roland Moon in Toronto. They made their home in Toronto and Florence remained there until 2001 when she moved to Eureka. Rex preceded her in death on July 25, 1993.
She was a member of the First Christian Church of Toronto, the Cattle Women’s Association, The Order of the Eastern Star, the American Legion Auxiliary, and the Greenwood County Hospital Auxiliary.
She is survived by three children, Rexanna McMeans of Leawood, Brady Moon of Neodesha, and Cindy Patterson of Topeka; two grandchildren, Brandon and Trevor; and one sister, Toni Clay of Wichita.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers, and one sister.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Tuesday, July 20, 2004 at Koup Family Funeral Home, in Eureka, with Pastor Gerald Zuck of the Cherryvale Christian Church officiating. Interment will follow in Toronto Cemetery.
Memorials have been established in her name with the Greenwood County Hospital Ladies Auxiliary, the American Cancer Society, and the American Heart Association. Contributions may be sent in care of the funeral home at P.O. Box 595 Eureka, Kansas 67045.
