Evelyn "Maxine" Stewart, of Eureka, died on Tuesday, September 23, 2008, at Cedar Lake Village in Olathe, at the age of 89.
Maxine was a homemaker and loving mother residing in Olathe. She was born on October 21, 1918, in Strong City, the daughter of John Francis and Ida May (Heskett) Sherrffius. Maxine attended grade school in Courtland, and graduated high school in Salina. She moved to Salina with her parents in 1937, and graduated from Venus Beauty School in 1958. She was a partner in a beauty shop in Mulvane, and later owner of a shop in Rose Hill.
On February 9, 1947, Maxine was united in marriage to Boyd Harold Stewart in Newton. They made their home in Wichita, and later Rose Hill. Later the family moved to Eureka where Boyd and Maxine ranched until 2006.
She is survived by one daughter, Patti Mishoe of Gilbert, Arizona; one son, Rex Stewart of Gardner; five grandchildren, Lori Stewart, Boyd Reid, Sarah Riley, Nancy Schaffran, and Jessica Stewart; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers, Gordon, Harry, Foster, Elwin, and Robert Sherffius, and sisters, Edna Rettiger, Mildred Dye, Lela Zollinger, and Shirley Holmes; and granddaughter, Pam Reid.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Friday, September 26, 2008 at Koup Family Funeral Home, Eureka with Mr. Jayme A. Koup officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Cemetery in Salina. A visitation will be held from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M., Thursday, September 25, 2008 at Koup Family Funeral Home, in Eureka.
