Ethel Emma Starner of Eureka died on December 24, 2003, at the Greenwood County Hospital at the age of 96.
She was born on November 10, 1907 in Hebron, Missouri, the daughter of Joseph and Lubbie (Tully) Sisson. She was raised in Missouri and moved to Kansas at the age of 14. In 1922 she was united in marriage to John Frank Chastain in Matfield Green, Kansas. They made their home in Matfield Green before moving to Eureka in 1930. He preceded her in death on June 29, 1950. In 1952 she was married to Clarence Matthews. He preceded her in death on July 10, 1969. In 1977 she was married to Raymond Starner. He preceded her in death on December 30, 1981.
Ethel was a homemaker but also worked at the Wheeler Nursing Home and Mary Lou’s Supper Club. She was a member of the New Life Assembly of God Church.
Ethel is survived by four sons, Arlie Chastain of Eureka, Clyde Chastain of Kansas City, Kansas, Irl Chastain of Eureka and Everett Chastain of Howard; two daughters, Gladys Morris of Fredonia and Virginia Jones of Eureka; one sister Laura Chapman of Poplar Bluff, Missouri, numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, three husbands, one son Roger Chastain; two daughters; Mary Lou Carroll and Annie Chastain, and two brothers and one sister.
Funeral services were held at 2:30 P.M., Friday, December 26, 2003, at the New Life Assembly of God Church of Eureka with Pastor Chris Anderson officiating. Interment followed in Greenwood Cemetery.
