Ethel Mae Hosler, of Eureka, died at her home on January 5, 2006, at the age of 84.
She was born in rural Greenwood County, Kansas on November 24, 1921, the daughter of Dove and Alice Mae (York) Barb. She attended rural grade school and graduated from Hamilton High School. Ethel then attended Kansas State Teachers College in Emporia where she received Normal Training. After her training she began her teaching career in rural Greenwood County schools. At the age of fifty she graduated from Kansas State Teachers College with a Bachelor of Science Degree in teaching. In the late 1980’s she retired from the Eureka school system after 45 years of service to the youth of this area.
On June 29, 1942, Ethel was united in marriage to Benjamin Harrison Woodrow Butler in Eureka. He preceded her in death on September 18, 1982.
On June 25, 1984, Ethel was united in marriage to Harold L. Hosler in Eureka.
She is survived by her husband, Harold, of the home, and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, first husband, Ben, and one sister, Alice Taylor.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Tuesday, January 10, 2006, at the Christian & Congregational Church with Reverend Rhonda Almond of the Christian & Congregational Church officiating. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery.
Memorials have been established in her name to Greenwood County Hospice and the Christian & Congregational Church. Contributions may be sent in care of the funeral home.
