Ethel V. Basham
Ethel Virginia Basham, of Eureka, died on July 25, 2014 at Wilson Medical Center in Neodesha at the age of 91.
Ethel was born on November 10, 1922 in Bronx, New York. She was the daughter of Richard Armand and Nellie Harriet (May) Mariani. She attended school in the Bronx attending Ursaline Academy and in the winter months in Florida she attended Miss Harriett’s School for Girls. Later she attended college at National Park College in Forest Park, Maryland before getting her teaching degree at Washburn University when the family moved to Kansas.
On January 1, 1944 she married John Henry Basham in Eureka, Kansas where they made their home. He preceded her in death on April 23, 1979.
Ethel was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, and the Sacred Heart Altar Society and the music club.
She is survived by her sons, John H. Basham of Great Bend, Richard Basham of Emporia and Dr. Mark Basham of Eureka; daughters, Margaret Basham of Eureka and Katherine Basham of Duluth, Minnesota; brother Ted Mariani of Eureka and three grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son Tim Basham; two brothers, Eugene and Robert.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, July 30, 2014 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Steve Gronert officiating. Rosary will be at 10: 15A.M. Visitation will be from 5-7 P.M., Tuesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established her name to Sacred Heart Catholic Church and left in care of the funeral home at P.O. Box 595, Eureka, Kansas 67045.
