Erma Jean Smith
Erma Jean Smith of Toronto died on Sunday, May 17, 2015 at her home in Toronto at the age of 86.
She was born on April 25, 1929 in Chase County, Kansas, the daughter of Floyd and Julia (Pritchett) Cook. She was raised in El Dorado and attended local schools. On April 25, 1947, she was united in marriage to Clyde D. Smith in Iola. To this union seven children were born. The family moved to Toronto in 1977. Clyde preceded her in death on June 19, 2011.
She was a member of the Good News Baptist Church of Toronto and the American Legion Auxiliary.
She is survived by three sons, Clyde and wife, Marlene Smith of Toronto; Tom and wife, Tara Smith of Toronto; and Jackie and wife, Nancy Smith of Coyville; thirty-four grandchildren; forty-nine great-grandchildren; and twenty-three great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Lucille King of El Dorado; and two daughters-in-law, Rita and Sharon. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; three sons, Donald, Lonnie, Floyd, and Penny; one sister, and several brothers.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, May 23, 2015 at Koup Family Funeral Home with Pastor George Lewis of the Coyville Christian Church officiating. Interment will follow at Toronto Cemetery. Visitation hours are set from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M., Friday, at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be made to Gentiva Hospice of Parsons. Contributions may be sent in care of Koup Family Funeral Home, P.O. Box 595, Eureka, KS 67045, which was in charge of service arrangements.
