Elsie Peace Reno, died at Medicalodge of Eureka on November 7, 2007, at the age of 97 years 4 months and 3 days.
Elsie Mae Cody was born on July 4, 1910, in rural Mountain Home, Arkansas to William and Cora Mae Cody. She married Wm. Vernon Peace in 1927, in Mountain Home then established their first home in Teterville. This union was blessed with a daughter Evelyn, and a son William. Elsie and Vernon moved to Eureka in 1961.
After Vernon’s death in 1984, Elsie and Orville Reno were united in marriage in 1986. They continued to make their home in Eureka. Orville preceded her in death in 1998.
Elsie was an excellent homemaker, enjoying cooking, sewing, gardening, and hand crafts of all kinds. She was a dedicated member of the Christian & Congregational Church, a choir member for 47 years and participating in CCW activities. She enjoyed bowling, her card groups, and was a weekly hospital volunteer for many years. In later years the Eureka Senior Center was an important part of her life.
Elsie is survived by her son, Bill and his wife, Barbara of El Dorado, Kansas; son-in-law, Kenneth Harlan of Emporia; six grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, daughter, Evelyn Harlan; five sisters; and one brother.
Services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, November 10, 2007, at Koup Family Funeral Home with Reverend Rhonda Almond of the Christian & Congregational Church officiating. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established with the Christian & Congregation Church of Eureka, and the Eureka Senior Center. Contributions may be sent in care of Koup Family Funeral Home at P.O. Box 595, Eureka, KS 67045.
