Funeral services for Elsie Leota Hamman, 86, will be held Wednesday, December 4, 2002 at 11:00 a.m. at Koup Family Funeral Home, Eureka, Kansas.

She was born December 22, 1915, in Fort Scott, Kansas, to George Henry and Bertha Rowena (Lyon) Niemeir and died December 1, 2002 at Eureka, Kansas.

She attended Fort Scott schools, graduating from high school, class of 1933, and attended Fort Scott Junior College until employment at Calhoun’s Department Store.

She was baptized in Christian faith in the First Christian Church, Fort Scott, as a youth. She attended annual church conferences in Emporia. There she met William Neil Hamman of Madison, Kansas, who later became her husband. They were united in marriage at Goodland, Kansas, on July 10, 1938 at the home of her sister and brother-in-law, Reverend and Mrs. Earl Strader. To this union, three children were born, James Earl, Carolyn Jean and Sue Ann. Employed in the oil fields, they lived in several Kansas towns and a few years in Bremerton, Washington. She and her son, their only child at the time, lived in Burrton, Kansas, while her husband served in the U. S. Navy during WWII.

She has been a lifetime member of Royal Neighbors of America since youth and enjoyed many years of “Mothers’ Guidance Study Club” in Eureka. She was a devoted wife and mother, and participated in the school and church life with her children, and a deputy clerk in the office of Greenwood County Clerk at the courthouse in Eureka, Kansas, retiring in 1982 after sixteen years employment.

Surviving are two daughters: Jean McCollough of Enid, Oklahoma, and Sue Ann Flowers of El Dorado and their husbands, one sister, Dorothy Dighero, of Chanute, Kansas, sister-in-law, Margaret Edwards, El Dorado, Kansas, five grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, son, parents, two sisters, and one brother.

Memorials may be made to First Christian Congregational Church and El Dorado Hospice. Contributions may be sent in care of the funeral home.
