Leon Sowder, of Eureka, died on Tuesday, October 14, 2008, at Golden LivingCenter, in El Dorado, at the age of 91.

He was born on October 9, 1917, in Woodson County, the son of John Edward and Jessie (Jones) Sowder. He was raised in Woodson County and attended local schools. On May 28, 1942, Leon joined the United States Army, where he served his country with honor and dignity during World War II.

On July 4, 1946, Leon was united in marriage to Naomi Toepke in Wichita. This marriage later ended in divorce. In 1951, Leon moved to Eureka, where he was a long time grain elevator owner, feed and fertilizer store proprietor, and cattle rancher. He lived in Eureka until his health forced him to move.

Leon is survived by two sons, Jack Leon Sowder of El Dorado; Barry Kurt Sowder of Orlando, Florida; one daughter, Micha Ann Sowder of Orlando, Florida; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Friday, November 28, 2008, at Koup Family Funeral Home, in Eureka with Mr. Jack Sowder officiating.
